Aggie bonfire
Ten years ago this week, Texas A&M University was hit by tragedy when a 60-foot-tall pile of logs collapsed, killing 12 students and injuring 27 others. The students were taking part in a longstanding tradition –amassing a huge collection of logs that would be burned in a bonfire before the school’s annual football game with the University of Texas. The Dallas Morning News reports that since the tragedy, the bonfire has been moved off campus and is subject to more rigorous safety precautions. Recently, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, an A&M alum, was quoted as saying that the bonfire tradition, which began more than 100 years ago, could soon return to the College Station campus.
Do you think it would be a wise decision to allow the bonfire back on campus?
