Charter trends
Statistics from Washington, D.C., show a continuing rise in the popularity of charter schools. The latest numbers for fall 2009 show that 27,953 students are attending charter schools in the city, compared with 45,772 in traditional public schools, The Washington Post says. That works out to 38 percent of public school student population that is attending charter schools.
Some educators are concerned about the growth of charters because they fear that the presence of charter schools will drain resources from traditional public schools and erode the ability of those schools to offer a good education. Charter supporters say the competition from charter schools will result in higher-quality schools.
Do you think school systems should place a limit on how many students are allowed to attend charter schools?

It probably will be politically unpopular to oppose additional charter school enrollments. But, what is necessary is an accounting from those charters that ensures that students are receiving a quality education.
