Off-campus housing

Students from the University of Kentucky and landlords in Lexington are objecting to proposals that would limit the density of student housing in a neighborhood, The Lexington Herald-Leader reports. A Student Housing Task Force report last month outlined strategies to diminish problems associated with “dense student housing, ” such as litter, noise, alcohol abuse, parking and neglect of housing stock. The report says other university communities have found that if half or less of housing in a neighborhood is occupied by undergraduate students, problems are lessened sufficiently to attract single-family homeowners to live in the area. But students and landlords argue that density limits would be unreasonable and unfair, and would send a message”to students that they are unwelcome in the community.

Do you think municipalities should restrict the number of college students that can live in a particular area? Leave a comment.

I attended (University of Kentucky) for my Bachelor of Architecture, and there was nothing better than the density and communal environment near campus. I would strongly advise against this.
