Deadbeat donor
From The Detroit News: Gregory E. Bradbury must have some money– in 2004, the Michigan State University alumnus and member of the university’s Foundation board has bequeathed $1 million to the university’s business school and library. So it’s curious (and some might say classless) that he owes his ex-wife $45,000 in delinquent support payments for their two children.
Bradbury’s son, Gordy, 24, learned about his father’s pledge to MSU when he did a Google search for his father. The younger Bradbury is asking MSU to divert $45,000 of the $1 million pledge and pay his mother what she is owed. The university’s position? Bradbury hasn’t given us the money yet (the school gets the bequest after the donor’s death), so we can’t give any of it to the ex-wife. They apparently still plan to accept the gift even though he is a deadbeat with regard to his familial obligations.
The newspaper interviewed the elder Bradbury and he acknowledges that he didn’t pay the child support (the couple divorced in 2002), but he wouldn’t say why.
