Campus living
Colleges continue to construct new student housing filled with amenities to attract students who are accustomed to comfortable accommodations. In the Boston area, The Boston Globe reports, Tufts University is studying how to upgrade their residence halls, and Harvard University, Boston University, Northeastern University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology all have built or are planning to build new student housing. Housing officials say students have become used to their own bedrooms and bathrooms and other amenities at home and want something comparable when they go to college.
Do you these more upscale residence halls are a wise investment for colleges and universities, or are these new facilities just making it more difficult for many students to afford to attend college?

Other things being equal, a student is going to pick a campus where the housing accommodations are more comfortable. Schools can’t expect students to accept the spartan living quarters that their parents tolerated a generation ago.

Better campus housing options mean that more students will decide to stay on campus, where they are close to classes and other activities, and they are able to have a more complete college experience.
