Caution: Merger Ahead
A plan to consolidate school districts in the state of Maine is scheduled to go before the legislature’s Education and Cultural Affairs Committee. Several proposals for merging districts have been put forth since Gov. John Baldacci’s proposed consolidating the state’s 290 school districts into 26 to save $250 million in the state budget in three years.
